Patient Safety Culture and its Associated Factors among Health Care Workers of a Teaching Hospital in Nigeria

Background: Good patient safety culture among healthcare professionals has been associated with an overall improvement in patients’ wellbeing. Previous studies on this subject focused on practices aimed at reducing adverse outcomes in the health care system. However, in the present study, we investigated the current status and associated factors of patient safety culture among healthcare workers at a Teaching hospital in Nigeria, with a view to identifying key factors that promote safety-conscious work environment.

Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 238 healthcare workers at Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, Nigeria, who completed a validated standardized self-administered Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture questionnaires. 10 dimensions of patient safety culture were measured using the validated scales.
