Coronally advanced flap for treatment of multiple gingival recession in maxillary teeth – A Evaluative study

Abstract:
Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of root coverage in maxillary teeth with multiple gingival recession usingcoronally advanced flap.
Materials and methods: A 25 systemically healthy patients were recruited with Miller’s class I and II gingival recessions in maxillary teeth. Parameters such as recession height (RH), recession weight (RW), avascular surface area (ASA), width of keratinized gingiva (WKG), width of attached gingiva (WAG), clinical attachment level (CAL) were measured at baseline 3 and 6 months post-surgery.
Results: The outcome measures was statistically significant at baseline, 3 and 6 months. A reduction of 86% was achieved in terms of RH and RW. Gain in WKG and AG as achieved at 6 month follow up was 37% and 45%. A 93% decrease in avascular surface area was obtained and reduction in CAL was 82.4%.Between 3 and 6 months there was a significant decrease in avascular surface area.
Conclusion: Coronally advanced flap technique results in improved measures of Avascular surface area at 6 month follow up.Based on the results of this study we conclude that coronally advanced flapwas effective in the treatment of multiple maxillary recessions in terms of all parameters assessed. The Amount of reduction in avascular surface was achieved more effectively in coronally advanced flap technique.
