Diaphragmatic hernia - Case series and Literature reviewDr.C.Praneeth Reddy, Dr. Premananda Pattanaik, Dr.Sampath Thirunavukkarassu, Dr.Bharath Kumar, Dr. Muni Krishna, Dr. P Varun. Abstract | | | | Diaphragmatic hernias can be congenital or acquired. Traumatic diaphragmatic hernias constitute major part of acquired hernias. They are uncommon life-threatening, and remain a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge with an overall mortality rate of up to 31% in recent series(1).Congenital diaphragmatic hernia in adults are extremely rare. They occur due to failure of the development of muscular diaphragm, which leads to displacement of the abdominal contents into thorax. Surgery is indicated for symptomatic as well as asymptomatic patients who are fit for surgery. It can be done by laparotomy, thoracotomy, thoracoscopy, or laparoscopy (2).
