Acute appendicitis (AA) is one of the most common cause of abdominal surgeries. Many methods are used for early diagnosis of AA. The aim of this retrospective study is to determine the diagnostic value of neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio in patients with acute appendicitis.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 350 patients medical records who underwent appendectomy during 3-years period. Patients were subdivided to 9 group according to histopathological findings and diagnostic performance of neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio were analyzed using SPSS method.
Results: The mean ages of patients were 36±25. Patients neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio who underwent appendectomy procedure were analyzed. No significant difference found between groups. (P>0.05)
Conclusion: Neutrophil/lymphocyte (NLR) analysis can be used for diagnosis of acute appendicitis as a proinflammatory test but it requires additional tests in analysing prediction of AA.
