Analgesic effect of Ajamodadi Vati (Ayurvedic Formulation) in Osteoarthritis

Abstract

Background: Osteoarthritis (Sandhigata Vata) formerly labeled as 'degenerative joint disease' is grouped under Vata Vyadhi (diseases arising due to humor Vata) in Ayurveda. Predominantly ageing inuences the situation with Vata, Kapha as the primary Dosha (humor) involved in the pathogenesis along with Sleshmadhara Kala (mucous membrane of the joint). Aim: To evaluate the analgesic effect of
Ajamodadi Vati (Ayurveda formulation) in Sandhigata Vata. Materials & Methods: 30 patients fullling the inclusion criteria were undertaken in the study for the duration of 30 days. The trial drug was administered at a dose of 3 gm /day. Results: The trial drug showed statistically highly significant results in alleviating the complaints assessed through subjective & objective parameters except in Swelling. Conclusion: The result suggested that the trial drug Ajamodadi Vati indeed exhibited good analgesic effect against pain developed due to osteoarthritis.
