Cognitive behavioral therapy for stress management

Abstract

Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) based interventions on stress management of the parents of disabled children.
Methodology: A quasi-experimental study was done on parents of disabled children. Seven sessions on weekly basis were conducted with parents individually. Paired samples t-test was used to assess the difference from baseline to after the completion of 7 sessions.
Results: Pre-test score was 41.1+ 3.8 and Posttest score was 26.9+ 2.9 showing decrease in stress when measured by using perceived stress scale.
Conclusion: CBT based interventions can be effective for reducing stress level in parents of children with disabilities.
