Low Glycemic Index Diet; A useful intervention in postpartum obesity

Abstract

Postpartum obese women are those who put on weight during childbearing and retain weight even after childbirth. It is the frequent issue facing in healthcare setting around the globe. If proper measures are not taken in initial stages of postpartum weight retention, it can lead to long-term maternal obesity and has additionally been associated with unwanted outcomes like cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, preeclampsia, and diabetes mellitus and even maternal mortality. There are a number of strategies to combat postpartum obesity. Diet is one of the ways to prevent and manage weight. It is considered the safest and most effective approach in weight management. This article intends to determine the effective diet approach for weight reduction that can be helpful to plan diet for postpartum obese women, as well for planning nutritional education policies.
