Role of Bat in Ecosystem and Global Conservation Efforts

Abstract
Bat alone constitute nearly twenty per cent of mammalian population throughout the globe. They are broadly categorized into suborders, megachiloptera (flying foxes) and microchiloptera. Megachilopterans mainly live on fruits, while microchiropterans are echolocators are more specialized in their behavior. Major bat population is insectivorous in nature. This article is focused in commemoration of Year of the Bat 2011-2012 being celebrated throughout globe in which conservation effort for this wildlife creature is being undertaken with strict guidelines. The UNEP Convention on migratory species (CMS) and the agreement on the Conservation of Populations of European Bats (EUROBATS) have joined together to celebrate the Year of the Bat.
