Abstract

This paper examined perceptions of agricultural and rural life in Bangladesh, focusing on women. The multifaceted value of agriculture was understood, but efforts were perceived as unrewarding, while the comfort and satisfaction of rural life were highly valued. Although women’s activities were limited in scope, they found fulfillment in daily routine and relationships. While economic independence is important, satisfaction with daily life should also be respected. Rural life, often labeled poor, is not necessarily inferior when livelihoods are secure, and its environmentally friendly way of life offers lessons for the Global North. The richness of life based on relationships with nature and mutual aid tends to be overlooked, leading to the loss of their traditions and pride. Future policies require a perspective that shares and respects the joys of living with nature.
