ECO FRIENDLY MANAGEMENT OF PULSE BEETLE (CALLOSOBRUCHUS CHINENSIS) BY USING DIFFERENT PLANT MATERIALS

Abstract

Legumes are ancient crops that have been in Sub Continent, Middle East and Various parts of the Africa lots of days. Pulses have been cultivated some 7400 years ago, that’s why Turkey is considered as the oldest legumes cultivated part of the earth. Pulses provide high quality protein and considered to be the best food for vegetarian population in India, South Asia, West Asia and Southern European countries. It has about 20% protein, 5% fat and 55% carbohydrate. Pulses are sold either as dry or canned. Common uses in United States are in soups, vegetable combinations, or as a component of fresh salads in restaurant and other food places. Chickpea is valued for its nutritive seeds with high protein content, 25.3-28.9%. These grain legumes are however, susceptible to different species of beetles of the family Bruchidae in storage commonly known as Dhora. At current, insect manage procedures frequently rely on synthetic pesticides and fumigants.
