Phytogenic Strategy Against Coccidiosis: Comparative Efficacy of Maduramycin and Digestarom® P.E.P. on Growth Performance, Blood Biochemistry, and Intestinal Pathology in Challenged Quails

Coccidiosis is one of the most serious parasitic diseases infecting poultry, caused by apicomplexan protozoa of the genus Eimeria. Traditionally, control tactics depended mainly on anticoccidial medications, but their sustained and extensive usage has resulted in the rise of drug-resistant Eimeria strains. As a result, there is a growing interest in alternate feed additives as safer, less expensive, and more effective choices for reducing avian coccidiosis. Digestarom® P.E.P., a commercial phytogenic product, has shown promise as a natural growth promoter and health improver in poultry. Recent data indicate that the anticoccidial agent Maduramycin, along with Digestarom P.E.P., showed superior performance compared to the untreated challenged control group in each test parameter. According to the performance and blood parameter results, Digestarom® P.E.P. significantly reduced coccidiosis in Japanese quails and had effects comparable to those of Maduramycin. Phytogenic additives offer a natural and effective approach to managing coccidiosis, and when used alongside anticoccidial drugs, they can help reduce the reliance on long-term medication and minimize associated negative effects.
