Abstract

Immuno-compromised patients are at high risk of being infected with aspergillus species. This
vulnerable population is composed of patients with neutropenia secondary to various causes,
acquired and inherited immunodeficiency states and patients who have undergone organ
transplantation.1Invasive aspergillosis in an immunocompetent patient has rarely been reported.
We report the case of 75 year old male, a known case of ischemic heart disease, who presented with
fever, swelling and loss of vision in the left eye. The CT scan revealed the presence of an irregular
mass that eroded the nasal cavity, the left maxillary sinus expanding into adjacent bones. The
patient underwent endoscopic sinus surgery.Aspergillus species was demonstrated in the biopsy
specimen

Key words: aspergillosis,sinus,invasive fungal ,infection.
