Heart as a Neurological Organ with Critical Link to Brain as a Two Way Dialogue

Abstract

Heart has a two way dialogue with brain. Neuro cardiological studies have shown that heart is a
sophisticated center for receiving and processing information and transmitting to all parts of the
body. Heart organizes various emotional responses in liaison with the brain. It is no wonder that
heart is a little brain. It is a known fact that Physiological changes do occur in the heart with
emotions. Certain negative feelings like anger, fear, hatred, and jealousy can affect the functioning
of the heart as well as occurrence of certain pathological changes like atherosclerosis. It is also
known that certain types of personalities are more pone for coronary atherosclerosis. An attempt is
made in this article to find out the heart brain link in the light of the knowledge of the
neurophysiological and suo mottu functioning of the heart in situations of brain trauma and viceversa.
