Comparative study of antidiabetic medications in periodontitis at tertiary care hospital of Hyderabad, Sindh, Pakistan

Abstract

Objective: To assess periodontitis among diabetes mellitus patients at a tertiary care hospital of Hyderabad, Sindh, Pakistan.
Methodology: This observational study was conducted at Isra Medical University Hospital, Hyderabad and included 100 patients from dental OPD of hospital. A self-structured questioner was used to determine frequency of periodontitis.
Results: Out of 100 cases, 57% were male and 43% female. We found that 69% with diabetes had periodontitis. Most common complication observed were obesity and Xerostomia in 37%. Results showed a relation-ship between periodontal disease and glycaemic control in diabetes.
Conclusion: High sugar level effects oral health and periodontitis, gum inflammation and Xerostomia were observed in most patients.
