Peripheral biomarkers in bipolar disorder manic episode

Abstract

Bipolar disorder is a chronic illness of which the etiology is not fully elucidated. Recently, in order to understand the pathophysiogy of bipolar disorder, oxidative stress, inflammation, and neurotrophic factors have been widely studied. Although there ara inconsistent results in these studies important findings have been obtained in oxidative stres, inflammatory, and neurotrophic factors biomarkers. In this review, it will be focused on serum or plasma biomarkers of oxidative stress, inflammatory, and neurotrophic factors studied in manic episode which is one of the characteristics episode of bipolar disorder.
