Abstract

In this report, we aimed to present a locally advanced rectal cancer with liver metastasis with complete clinical response after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy in the view of literature. During the evaluation of a 66-year-old male for bowel habit alteration, abdominal ultrasonography revealed solid masses filling the right lobe of the liver. Biopsy of the liver masses was evaluated as metastatic adenocarcinoma and ulcerovegetative, partially-obstructing mass at ten centimeters from the anal verge was determited. At the end of the neoadjuvant treatment, the size of the liver metastases remained stable and significant regression of the primary cancer was seen during control colonoscopy. Right hepatectomy and low anterior resection was performed simultaneously. If the complete response is revealed by imaging techniques and control colonoscopic examinations then verification of this condition with biopsy would give the patient the chance of simultaneous or staged surgery of rectal cancer and liver metastases.

Key Words: Rectal Cancer; Metastasis; Radiochemotherapy; Complete Clinical Response
