Prevalence of Cytomegalovirus antibody in pregnant women

In this study, total anticytomegalovirus (ACMV) IgM and IgG antibodies were researched by ELISA method in the serum samples of296 pregnant women who presented and/or hospitalized in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology clinic of school of medicine, University of AtatÃ¼rk, Erzurum-Turkey, between January 1991 and February 1992.
Two hundred seventy-eight ( 93.92 %)of the serum samples were seropozitive. In 252 (84.46 % ) of them A CMV IgG and in 26 (8.78 %) A CMV IgG + IgM were detected. Eight-teen sera samples (6.08 %) were found to be seronegative.
Absorbance levels of ACMV detected 252 sera samples were correlated with pregnancy period and age, and results were discussed. [Journal ofTurgut Ozal Medical Center 2(2):148-151,1995
