In this prospective study, associations between gallstones and age, sex, obesity, parity, oral contraceptives, diabetes, smoking, and alcohol intake were assessed in age and sex matched 100 patients with cholelithiasis and 100 controls. The results of this study confirmed the female predominance and increased risk of gallstones with age. Obesity, multiparity, and oral contraceptives represent high risk factors for gallstones.
