Abstract

Erythromycin is one of the antibiotics of macrolide group which has a prokinetic effect on gastrointestinal system. The aim of the study is to investigate the use of erythromycin on the volume and contractility of gallbladder in patients with cholelithiasis. Twelve patients with cholel th as s were evaluated before and after the use of erythromyc n. Pr or to calculat ons of gallbladder mot l ty, 500 mg of oral erythromycn was taken. Fast ng gallbladder volume, res dual volume and eject on fract ons were recorded. These parameters were compared before and after erythromycin usage. After erythromycin administration, residual volume was found to be decreased and ejection fractions taken on the tenth minute and after fiftieth, sixtieth, seventieth, eightieth, ninetieth minutes were higher than wthout erythromycin usage. However, there were no statitically impotant differences in parameters before and after the erythromycin usage.
