A Case With Hypokalemic Thyrotoxic Periodic Paralysis

Abstract


 

Thyrotoxic periodic paralysis is an uncommon complication of hyperthyroidism and characterized with the

attacks of hypokalemia and muscle weakness.

A male patient admitted to our emergency clinics had intermittent weakness in his upper and lower extremities

which was resolving spontaneously in a few hours. Patient was diagnosed as thyrotoxic periodic paralysis

depending upon laboratory examination and history. The epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation

and therapy of this relatively rare disease were reviewed.
