Photodynamic Therapy For Age-Related Macular Degeneration

Burak Turgut*, Tamer Demir**,

.

Abstract

Photodynamic therapy is based on the ablation of choroidal neovascular membranes using intravenous

verteporfin and low-power diode laser treatment. In this review, we focused on using photodynamic therapy for

AMD because it is a new treatment which has recently been proved in large scale, randomised clinical trials to

reduce the risk of vision loss in selected cases of AMD with CNV that extend under the centre of the foveal

avascular zone.
