Urinary Trypsinogen-2 Analysis in Early Diagnosis of Acute Pancreatitis

Abstract


 

Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate the place and importance of the urinary trypsinogen-2 analysis in early diagnosis of acute pancreatitis.

Materials and Method: The patients who admitted with abdominal pain to the surgery emergency service of Ministry of Health Ankara Dışkapı Yıldırım Beyazıt Training and Research Hospital were examined prospectively.

Results: 76 female and 29 male total 105 patients were included in this study. The mean age was 53.3 (range 19-87). 51 of the patients were acute pancreatitis, 54 of them were the control group with other abdominal pathologies. Urinary trypsinogen-2 was analysed in all patients within 24 hours after admittance. The urinary trypsinogen-2 level was 96.1% positive in patients who was diagnosed as acute pancreatitis and 1.9 % was found positive in the control group (patients who had an extra-pancreatic illness). The sensitivity and specifity of the test was found to be 96% and 92% respectively .

Conclusion: Urinary trypsinogen-2 test is a quick, efficient and reliable test in the early diagnosis of acute pancreatitis.
