Comparison of Two Models for the follow-up of Very Low Birth Weigth Infants: ?The Medical Home Model? and ?Follow-up in Primary Care? and the Effects on Health Indicators

Abstract


The aim of this study is to examine the efficacy of "medical home model" compared to the “primary care model” on health indicators of VLBW infants at 3-months corrected age. The intervention and the control groups were comprised of 40 and 66 infants infants who were born with birth weigth under 1500 grams at Zekai Tahir Burak (ZTB) Maternity Teaching Hospital and who lived in Ankara, respectively. The study has demonstrated some benefical effects in short term health indicators like decrease of unnecessary emergecy visits and increase in the continuity of care. The study was presented in European Society for Social Pediatrics and Child Health (ESSOP) Congress, 2010.
