An Exploratory Review into The Etiopathology of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder in Ayurveda

Abstract

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder characterized by obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors. OCD is becoming a major health concern in the modern world affecting the quality of life of the individual. It is associated with significant distress to the individual and their family and to the society as a whole. Effective management of the disease is the need of the hour. Ayurvedic management of any disease includes samprapti vighatana. Information regarding OCD was collected from published articles in reputed journals and from modern medical textbooks. Ayurvedic concepts were collected from Ayurvedic classical treatise. Understanding the different etiological factors in ayurvedic terms and how they contribute to the pathogenesis will help in the samprapti vighatana and thus in the effective management of the disease. This paper is an attempt to explore the same.
