Effectiveness of intense pulsed light on treatment of melasma

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy for treating melasma.
Methodology: This quasi-experimental study included 32 patients diagnosed with melasma with no prior melasma treatment for at least three months. Participants underwent four IPL sessions using a 560nm filter, spaced three weeks apart. The primary outcome measure was the change in the Modified Melasma Area Severity Index (mMASI) from baseline to after the final treatment session. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS to determine the significance of changes observed.
Results: The mean baseline mMASI score was 8.6±4.2, with 59% of patients initially scoring within the 5-10 range. Following four IPL treatments, a significant reduction in mMASI scores was observed, with the mean score decreasing to 3.8±2.6 (t=9.920, p
