Objective: To determine the frequency of urinary tract infections (UTI) following flexible cystoscopy.
Methodology: A total of 190 patients with indication for cystoscopy of age 18-60 years of both genders were included. Patients with diabetes mellitus, UTI, dysuria, and antibiotics use in the past one month were excluded. Flexible cystoscopy was performed under local anesthesia. During follow-up visits, anyone who develops symptoms associated with UTI (Fever, dysuria, frequency, and incontinence) was asked to provide a midstream urine sample (MSU) in the same visit.
Result: Age range of patients was from 18 to 60 years (mean 43.31±8.56). UTI following flexible cystoscopy develpoed in 27 (14.21%) patients.
Conclusion: The frequency of UTI following flexible cystoscopy was quite high.
