Abstract

Necrotising Fasciitis is a fatal skin infection often underdiagnosed , usually affecting the limbs and trunk.Periorbital involvement is exceedingly rare.We report a case of NF of the eyelids ;initially misdiagnosed as preseptal cellulitis.Surgical debridement with intensive medical therapy led to the successful resolution and limited mortality and morbidity associated with severe forms of the disease. Thus it is important to recognise the cardinal signs of NF and with prompt treatment cosmetic and functional success is obtained.

Key words: Necrotising fasciitis, streptococcus pyogenes, preseptal cellulitis
