Awareness and usage of iodized salt at the household level in Karachi, Pakistan

Objective: To determine the knowledge and utilization of iodized salt at the household level and assess whether its use is affected by socio-demographic and health consciousness factors.
Methodology: This cross-sectional study approached the respondent through a non-probability convenience sampling approach. We used interviews from structured questionnaires. The sample size of 301 was calculated by Epi Info (version 7.1). The prevalence of 73% was considered (based on previous studies), keeping the confidence level of 95%, with a margin of error of 5%. The study population was individuals who purchased salt for the household.
Results: The frequency of iodized salt usage was 73.8%. Using chi-square analysis, the significant association with iodized salt usage was observed among the higher age group, gender (female), married, having attained higher education, and being in a higher income group (p
