ANTI-INFLAMMATORY ACTIVITY OF PSORALEA CORYLIFOLIA LINN.

BINA GIDWANI, R.N. ALASPURE.

Abstract

Anti-inflammatory activity of n-hexane extract of Psoralea corylifolia Linn. was
evaluated in albino rats by carrageenan induced rat paw oedema assay. This drug is widely used
in treatment of skin diseases like psorasis, leucoderma leprosy etc. For anti-inflammatory activity,
the seeds were extracted in soxhlet apparatus using hexane as solvent. Nine healthy swiss albino
rats of either sex were divided into three groups, each consisting of three rats. The evaluation was
done by hind paw method and compared with standard and control groups. The drug shows
significant anti-inflammatory activity (44%) when compared with the standard (55%).

Key words: Psoralea corylifolia Linn., Anti-inflammatory activity.
