Employers’ views on the skills and professional practice of law students in Universiti Utara Malaysia

Abstract

Technical skills and professional practice is an important criterion to law graduates in preparing their future career. This article seeks to discuss the view of employers on the skills and professional practice among the UUM LL.B students who has undergo practical training. This is a socio-legal study where a quantitative approach was adopted. The survey was conducted among legal practitioners with experience as the performance assessor for LL.B students who undergo practical training at the courts, law firms and other placements. Results of the research illustrate that skills and professional practice of the students in procedural aspects in criminal, civil, probate and conveyencing is very good and good respectively. They are also very good regarding skills of arguing the law, legal writing and the ability to analyze logically. Those elements are extremely significant in order to increase marketability of law graduates in the industry and organization.
