Said Noor El-Din A. Noor El-Din.

Abstract

In this study Lanistes carinatus snails were collected from Om Khalifa irrigation canal running through planted lands near Shebein El-Kom City, Menoufiya Governorate; Egypt, during March to September 2007. Of 226 collected snails, 17 (7.5%) were infected with trematode redia and cercaria. The collected cercariae possessed typical distome gymnocephalus features. The morphology of redia and cercaria has been described and illustrated. The general characters of redia and cercaria were discussed in concern with other studies. The present study stands as the first to record this new distome gymnocephalus cercaria from Lanistes carinatus in Egypt.

Key words: Lanistes carinatus, distome gymnocephalus cercaria, Egypt.
