Procamallanus laeviconchus is a common parasite of the catfish Clarias gariepinus. Adult worms were in vitro cultivated in seven different types of media. NCTC 109 (formula IV) formed of 70% NCTC 109 and 30% buffer saline was the best medium for the maintenance of the parasite at pH 6.5-6.7 and 20-23°C for six days. In vitro study revealed that flubendazole was more effective against P. laeviconchus than mebendazole and levamesole. Flubendazole caused a high mortality rate (90%) for both males and females when used at a concentration dose of 100 ppm. It was found that the water fruit extract of Ammi majus is more effective on male and female Procamallanus laeviconchus than the water flower extract at very high concentrations.
