TRICHOMONAS VAGINALIS INFECTIONS AMONG WOMEN IN BASRAH MARSHES VILLAGES SOUTH IRAQ

Abstract

During the period March to November 2012, 221 samples of women vagina swap who suffer from problems in the genitourinary system were examined. Samples were taken from these women who live in marsh villages of Basrah province south Iraq. The total prevalence of infection recorded 57.85% and 53% for Al-Mashab and Al-Nashwa villages, respectively. These samples were examined by wet mount methods, examination included married women and unmarried ones, and the prevalence of infection among married women was 61.58% while the prevalence of infection among unmarried ones was 31.81%. The proportion of infection among non-pregnant women (69.72%) was higher than the pregnant ones (30.27%). The age group between 31-35 years was most affected (68.75%), while age group 36-40 years was less affected (25.71%). In conclusion the prevalence of Trichomonas vaginalis infection was 55.65%, the infection was more (60.54%) prevalent among those with illiterate and just literate education level while it was 53.12% of primary and intermediate education level.
