Manivannan Rajamanickam, Prabakaran Kalaivanan, Ilayaraja Sivagnanam.

Abstract

Clitoria ternatea belonging to the family Fabaceae, commonly known as Butterfly pea. A wide range of secondary metabolites including triterpenoids, flavonol glycosides, anthocyanins and steroids has been isolated from Clitoria ternatea Linn. GC-MS analyses of CHCl3 and EtOAc fractions have performed on Gas Chromatography with mass spectrometer. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the radical scavenging ability, using the stable radical DPPH and anti-diabetic activity in alloxan induced diabetes in albino rats has evaluated from the flowers extract of Clitoria ternatea. The blood glucose level in the different groups has assayed and biochemical parameters have assessed to support the proposed hypothesis. During the experimental period, body weight of all the rats has determined at regular intervals of time. The serum glucose lowering activity was compared with glibenclamide, a standard hypoglycemic drug.

Key words: Clitoria ternatea, GC-MS analysis, blood glucose level, biochemical estimation
