The Possible Relationship between Gastric Cancer and Angiogenesis [Mide Kanseri ve Anjiyojenez Arasindaki Olasi Iliski]

Abstract

Occurring in the uncontrolled proliferation of cancer cells, is one of the most important health problems of our age. In gastric cancer, is among the world's most common cancer deaths, is quite resistant to drug therapies. Invasion of the cancer happened spreading through blood vessels and lymphatic system. This invasion could be easier with angiogenesis. Angiogenesis; oxygen and nutrients to and waste away from a system that allows the construction of the vessel, the formation of pre-existing blood vessels is the event of new capillary blood vessels. Angiogenesis is also useful for wound healing and growth but it can also lead to tumor growth and metastasis. There are many factors that affect cancer progression and metastasis. The most important of these factors angiogenesis system activator / inhibitors. One of the most important system activators is angiogenic vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). VEGF increases vascular permeability, and stimulates the MMP which is respansible for the destruction so that metastasis and invasion becames easier. The most important of antiangiogenic agents are endostatin and Trombospondin. Endostatin, a powerful inhibitor of angiogenesis, it directly prevents growth and migration of and endothelial cells and inhibits the angiogeensis effect of VEGF. Thrombospondin-1 is the member of a heparin binding 5 membered family of extracellular proteins which is secreted by many normal cells. Its anti angiogenic effect comes from N- terminal part of the protein. The aim of this review is to describe the relationships of angiogenesis and gastric cancer and to present in widely perspective for readers.
