Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Autoimmune Hypothyroidism : A Case Report

Abstract

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a common autoimmune disease with the prevalence of 3.2 per 100000 in India. The reported association of SLE and thyroid disorders varies as much as 3.9 – 24 %. Here we present a 22 year old female with complaints of breathlessness, fatigue, myalgia, fever and decreased urine output since 2 days, who was brought to Medicine OPD, Wenlock District Hospital, Mangalore, with a past history of SLE on irregular treatment and follow up since 2 years. On examination she had pallor, generalized oedema, BP – 170/90 mm Hg, ejection systolic murmur in pulmonary area. Investigatory findings were positive for ANA and anti TPOand also were suggestive of anaemia, hypothyroidism and nephropathy.
