According to the author, in spite of the different paths of evolution of industrial relations, trade unions in the modern society preserve their importance. But the author also indicates that the globalization process has changed the labor market structure in the EC countries and has diminished the power of trade unions in wage determination, but has enhanced their roles in social and political development.
