Objective: To determine the frequency of hypoglycemia in small for gestational age (SGA) term neonates admitted in our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
Methodology: This cross-sectional study was conducted at the NICU of King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, Mansehra, Pakistan from January to June 2022. In a total of 244 SGA term neonates, demographic information and laboratory data was collected. The presence of hypoglycemia was documented. Data were analyzed using SPSS 26.
Results: In a total of 244 neonates, 124 (50.8%) were boys and 120 (49.18%) girls. Mean age was 9.0±6.41 days; 170 (69.7%) neonates had age between 1-14 days. Among SGA neonates, hypoglycemia was noted in 84 (34.4%) cases. No signification association of age (p=0.6550), gender (p=0.7237), birth weight (p=0.6718) or gestational age (0.5248) were observed.
Conclusion: The frequency of hypoglycemia was high among small for gestational age term neonates admitted in NICU.
