Abstract

This review aims to evaluate the current status of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, comparing it to that of the other countries. In addition, the important causes of tuberculosis (TB) resistance prevalence are discussed, and the need for further research in the development of MDR-TB resistance is evaluated. To evaluate the current status of MDR-TB in Saudi Arabia, data from previous studies of MDR-TB in Saudi Arabia were collected and compared with data collected worldwide regarding the same disease. In the study, various factors that affect the prevalence of MDR-TB were considered, and a brief review of MDR-TB complications is given. Many causes of MDR-TB prevalence in Saudi Arabia are illegal immigration, the misuse of antibiotics by the patients, and the incorrect prescription by the healthcare providers.

Key words: Tuberculosis, KSA , MDR-TB, XDR-TB, Adverse effects.
