Evaluation of the Post-Graduate Theses on Teacher Education in Turkey

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine post-graduate theses in the field of teacher education in
Turkey and to develop a variety of suggestions, concerned with teacher education, from the obtained findings
and results from these studies. With this aim in mind, the study examined and evaluated the theses on teacher
education conducted in Turkey from 2006 to 2012. Meta-synthesis and descriptive analyzing methods were used
at this study. Generally, the studies examined were to determine the effectiveness of recent teaching methods and
techniques. In order to establish the proposed results, the existing curriculum was studied around two or three
dimensions. In the studies, in order to train qualified teachers in the process of teacher education, the practicality
of the teacher education practices were highlighted. Examining the teacher training institutions in detail in terms
of their infrastructure and faculty were also reported as a need. It is also concluded that, there is a need to
increase the efforts to offer an alternative model of teacher education in our country.
