Upper Primary School Students’ Views towards Scientific Knowledge: An Analysis for Information Literacy

Abstract

The aim of this research was to analyse the upper primary school students’ views toward scientific knowledge in terms of information literacy. The sample consisted of 298 upper primary school students. The study was conducted in 2009-2010 educational term in Polatlı, Ankara. The instrument developed by Coban and Ergin (2008) was used to determine the views towards scientific knowledge. At the end of the research, some statistically significant differences were found between the students’ views and variables of gender and general school average point. The findings derived from this research can refer to the policy makers in terms of educational policies based on evidence; and contribute to the dimensions of teacher education and curriculum development. Also, the importance of this research has increased since the perceptions of the new generation upon this kind of information, scientific knowledge, could give some cues.
