The Perception of Proficiency of Teachers During the Learning and Teaching Process

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine teachers’ perception of proficiency in the learning and teaching process. For this purpose, a 52- item-scale named Teacher Perception of Proficiency Scale has been developed. The samples were taken from 308 teachers of different subjects situated in 16 different elementary schools in and around Diyarbakır. Research results show teachers’ perception of their proficiency to be quite advanced in the learning and teaching process in general. Also, senior level teachers have a higher level of proficiency perception compared to junior level teachers. Teachers should be given in house training in course planning, material preparation, adjusting to the learning environment, preparing outside activities, adapting education according to individual needs, time and behavior management.
