Types of Context Used For Unknown Words in Secondary School Turkish Coursebooks

Abstract

In this research, we studied the types of context used for word/word groups that are used for vocabulary teaching activities based on context in the Turkish coursebooks for secondary schools. A quantitative research technique has been adopted in the study, also the method of document analysis and scanning technique have been used. Vocabulary Analysis Form was prepared for examining the word/word groups. The data gained from the vocabulary analysis have been analyzed with SPSS 13.0 statistic programme. Finally, word/word groups must designed with compact context clues. If context clues are not working well, vocabulary teaching activities based on context can’t achieve purposes about vocabulary teaching.
