The Teaching of Art Criticism for the Creation of Cultural Awareness

Serdar TUNA.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to argue that the teaching of art criticism in the virtual arts lesson especially in primary and secondary education will be highy valuable in the realisation of studentsÂ’ own culture through images and symbols used in art works. Today, with advances in communication vehicles, the variety between societies and cultures became easily noticable, getting to know other cultures, being respectful to each other, being able to see the common problems and searching for common solutions will help people to recognise cultural differences as an advantage. Beacuse of these reasons, art criticism should play an important role in the visual arts lesson.

Key words: Art Criticism, Cultural Awareness, Visual Art Education
