A Research on Investigating the Trait Anxiety and Depression Levels of the Students with Learning Disabilities

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the depression and anxiety levels of the 9-14 year old
students with learning disabilities with respect to some variables and to determine the relationship between the
depression and anxiety levels of the students. The sample of this study consists of a total of 89 students of which
34 are female and 55 are male attending the special education classes of elementary schools in Konya. In this
research to get information about the students and their families “Information Form”, to determine the students
anxiety level “State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children” and to evaluate the depression level of the students
“Children’s Depression Inventory” were used. According to the results of the study significant differences were
found in children’s depression and trait anxiety mean scores with respect to some variables such as gender, age,
number of sibling, educational level of the parents, preschool education and the level of income.
