The Effect of Mother-Child Education Program which is One of the Early Childhood Education Programs on Cognitive Development of Six Age Children

Abstract

Early intervention programs help to wipe out flaws which hinder child’s learning and development and of which compensation is impossible by powering parents. In this research, with the purpose of supporting development of children that couldn’t take advantage of early childhood services due to socioeconomic reasons but are most in need of this support, effects of MOCEP which developed as an alternative to institution centered education model and which is an home centered program on children’s cognitive development were examined. Results of research show that program makes ready children for school by supporting their cognitive development. It is thought that this readiness for school will have positive effect on child’s attendance by facilitating child’s adaptation to school. Therefore, it can be said that program both support children’s cognitive development in short-term and contributes to children’s achievement in school.
