Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis in a Young Adult: A case report

Abstract

Introduction: Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis is the most common cause of nephrotic syndrome in the form of a histologic pattern of glomerular disease with focal and segmental features of glomerular sclerotic lesions. Incidence of FSGS is 1.4 – 21 cases per million populations.
Case Report: A 24-year-old man was admitted to Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital with anarsaca edema, for five months, followed weight gain, foamy urine and anuria, hypercholesterolemia, hypoalbuminemia, and decreased eGFR. Kidney biopsy was done and the result he was diagnosed with FSGS. Then he was given steroid, immunosuppressant, and antihypertensive therapy and showed improvement.
Conclusion: The patient was diagnosed with FSGS by kidney biopsy. This report is expected can illustrate that kidney biopsy is important in diagnose of FSGS because of the impact in treatment and outcomes.
