JCR. 2020; 7(14): 1484-1491

Parvathy V, Pramod Kumar Das.

This research paper is a comparative study of the nationalism of two literary luminaries namely W.B Yeats of English and Vallathol Narayana Menon,an Indian poet.W.B Yeats is considered as the last romantic poet and the first modern poet in English literary study. He is undoubtedly a shining star in the literary firmament of Ireland and in the arena of world literature.Vallathol Narayana Menon is the lone poet laureate of Malayalam, the language of Kerala,a state belonging to the southern region of India.Vallathol was the nationalist poet of India whose poems were a waking call for the citizens of India to get involved in the freedom struggle of their country against British colonizers.Similarly W.B Yeats was the pioneer of Irish nationalism whose poems served the purpose of exhorting the Irish people to fight tooth and nail against the British rule in order to make Ireland fully autonomous. Some of the poems taken for this comparative study include Yeats’ ‘September 1913’ and ‘Easter 1916’ and Vallathol Narayana Menon’s ‘Mathruvandanam’ and ‘Ente Gurunadhan’.
