Postoperative functional of pulmonary and gastrointestinal systems of 38 cases which had aortofemoral bypass surgery under general anesthesia were compared with the same functions of 24 cases which had the same surgical procedure under epidural anesthesia. The mean age of first group was 61.2, female-male ratio was 6/32, operative mor tality was 1O% (4 exitus), mean time for discharging from hospital was 12th day. The same data for second group were (in turn}: 58.7, 4/20, % O, 7th day.
As a result it was thought that epidural anesthesia has value on early clinical stability of pulmoner and gastrointesti nal systems.
