Abstract

An anastomotic or false aneurysm after prosthetic vascular reconstruction is usually considered a rare late compli cation. lncidence is estimated to be between 1 and 4 percent. The cause of suture material, weakness of the host ar terial wall, chronic hypertension, graft material, graft infection, previous endarterectomy have been repeatedly impli cated. The occurence of falce aneurysms can probably be reduced by using polypropylene suture material lor the anastomoses. Because femoral anastomoses bear the greatest risk of developing !alsa aneurysms, the preference of the aortobifemoral prosthetic reconstruction in the treatment of aortiliac occlusive disease should be reconsidered.
